Affirmations are positive statements that can help us to challenge our self-sabotaging and negative thoughts.
It’s a popular method of self improvement because of their ability to re-wire the brain.
Science has found that our brains are malleable and can be rewired by our thoughts. Using positive affirmations is an effective way to change our thought patterns, and our brain activity, to move towards our goals.
The key to positive affirmations is repetition. You can say them out loud or think them in your mind, but regular repetition is key. It’s recommended that we practice affirmations for 5 minutes, twice a day. Once in the morning when you awake (5 minutes) and once in the evening before bedtime (5 minutes) These are the times that our subconscious is most vulnerable to suggestions, before our conscious mind is alert and taking control.
Much like exercise, repeating positive affirmations raises the level of feel good hormones, and pushes our brain to form new clusters of positive thought neutrons.

When we repeat positive affirmations each day – 5 minutes in the morning, and 5 minutes in the evening, we work towards believing in ourselves and making positive change in our lives, bringing both reward and happiness.
For affirmations to work we need to keep them in the present tense. So most affirmations should start with:
– I
– I am
– I choose
– I can
– I have

Here is a list of popular affirmations that anyone of us can use and believe in:
* I am in charge of my life
* I am able to be kind to myself
* I am enthusiastic and energetic
* I can do whatever I set my mind to
* I am a focused person
* I am learning something new every day.
* I am loved, I am valued, I am supported
